About The Atlas Gym
The Atlas Gym is an independent gym and fitness business based in Goudhurst, Kent.
We’ve built Atlas around a simple idea: gyms should feel welcoming, personal and enjoyable to be part of. We want people to feel comfortable walking through the door regardless of their experience, ability or fitness level.
As we continue to grow the gym, Atlas Club, our wellness offering and the wider Atlas brand, we’re looking for someone to join our team as a Member Experience Assistant.
This isn’t a traditional reception role.
You’ll be one of the main faces of The Atlas Gym and will play an important part in how new and existing members experience the business.
The Role
As a Member Experience Assistant, you’ll be responsible for helping create an exceptional experience from the moment somebody first contacts Atlas through to becoming a long-term member.
You’ll work across member service, membership sales, day-to-day gym operations and the front-of-house experience.
A typical shift could involve welcoming members, showing a prospective member around the gym, responding to enquiries, helping someone choose the right membership, preparing drinks at Atlas Fuel and making sure the gym looks and feels exactly as it should.
We want somebody who notices things, takes ownership and genuinely enjoys dealing with people.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Welcoming members and creating a friendly, professional atmosphere within the gym.
-
Building relationships with members and getting to know the people who train with us.
-
Responding to membership enquiries by telephone, email, social media and in person.
-
Conducting gym tours and introducing prospective members to Atlas.
-
Explaining our memberships, Atlas Club, classes, wellness services and other Atlas offerings.
-
Following up enquiries, trials and prospective members.
-
Helping new members get settled into the gym and ensuring they have a positive onboarding experience.
-
Supporting membership sales and helping convert enquiries into new members.
-
Providing excellent customer service and resolving member queries.
-
Operating our front-of-house and point-of-sale systems.
-
Preparing and serving drinks and products from Atlas Fuel.
-
Supporting supplement, drink and retail sales.
-
Keeping reception, member areas and the wider gym looking clean, organised and presentable.
-
Carrying out regular operational checks throughout the gym.
-
Supporting events, promotions and new initiatives.
-
Helping the wider team with the everyday running of the business.
Who We’re Looking For
You don’t need to come from the fitness industry.
We’re much more interested in finding someone with the right personality, attitude and work ethic.
You’ll probably suit this role if you’re:
-
Naturally friendly and confident speaking to new people.
-
Comfortable starting conversations rather than waiting for somebody to approach you.
-
Professional and presentable.
-
Reliable and punctual.
-
Organised and able to manage several things at once.
-
Proactive and willing to find things that need doing.
-
Comfortable selling when it comes from genuinely helping somebody find the right option.
-
Able to communicate confidently in person, over the phone and in writing.
-
Comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team.
-
Someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards.
-
Interested in fitness, health or wellness.
Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, sales, gyms or leisure would be helpful, but it isn’t essential.
What This Role Isn’t
This isn’t a job where you’ll spend your shift sitting behind a reception desk.
Atlas is a relatively small independent business, which means everyone gets involved.
We’re looking for someone who will talk to members, help prospective customers, support the team, keep an eye on standards and take responsibility for creating a great environment.
There will always be something you can be doing to improve the member experience.
Working Hours
We’re initially looking for approximately 24–27 hours per week.
The gym operates seven days a week, so applicants will need some flexibility around mornings, evenings and weekends.
There may also be the opportunity for additional hours over time as the business grows.
We are separately recruiting for a Marketing Assistant, and for an exceptional candidate with experience or a strong interest in marketing, there may be an opportunity to combine the two positions into a full-time role of approximately 37 hours per week.
What We Can Offer
You’ll be joining Atlas at an exciting stage of its growth.
The role offers the opportunity to become genuinely involved in an independent business rather than simply filling a front-desk position.
There will be opportunities to take on more responsibility as Atlas develops, work across different areas of the business and build experience in customer experience, sales, fitness, wellness and operations.
Most importantly, you’ll be joining a small team where your contribution will have a visible impact on the business and our members.
