Marketing Assistant
The Atlas Gym – Goudhurst, Kent
Part-time | Approximately 10–13 hours per week
Pay: National Minimum/National Living Wage, dependent on age
Potential to combine with our Member Experience Assistant position for approximately 37 hours per week
About The Atlas Gym
The Atlas Gym is an independent gym and fitness business based in Goudhurst, Kent.
Over the past few years, Atlas has grown from being simply a gym into a wider fitness and wellness brand, with group coaching, classes, Atlas Fuel, supplements and our developing wellness offering.
We’re now looking for a creative and proactive Marketing Assistant to help us tell that story, grow the Atlas brand and bring more people through our doors.
This is a hands-on role. We aren’t looking for someone who simply schedules the occasional social media post. We want someone who can spot opportunities, create engaging content and help turn our ideas into marketing campaigns that generate genuine results.
The Role
You’ll work closely with the management team to support the day-to-day marketing of The Atlas Gym and our wider products and services.
A typical week could involve filming a class, creating an Instagram Reel, photographing a new product at Atlas Fuel, designing graphics, helping launch a membership campaign, preparing an email to former members or capturing content from around the gym.
You’ll also help us plan ahead rather than simply posting content as and when we remember.
The role would suit someone early in their marketing career who wants the opportunity to build genuine hands-on experience and have creative input into a growing brand.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Creating regular photo and video content from around The Atlas Gym.
-
Creating and editing short-form video content for Instagram, Facebook and other relevant platforms.
-
Helping manage the Atlas social media channels.
-
Planning and maintaining a consistent social media content calendar.
-
Writing engaging captions and marketing copy.
-
Creating graphics and other digital marketing materials.
-
Promoting memberships, Atlas Club, classes, wellness, Atlas Fuel, supplements and new services.
-
Helping develop and deliver membership acquisition and retention campaigns.
-
Supporting email marketing campaigns.
-
Capturing member stories, testimonials and transformations where appropriate.
-
Working with coaches and other members of the team to generate content.
-
Supporting the marketing of events, launches and promotions.
-
Keeping the website and digital marketing materials up to date.
-
Monitoring basic marketing performance and helping us understand what content and campaigns are working.
-
Bringing forward new ideas rather than waiting to be told what to create.
-
Helping maintain a consistent Atlas brand across our marketing.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re not necessarily looking for someone with years of agency experience or an extensive marketing CV.
We’re looking for somebody creative, commercially aware and genuinely interested in developing their skills.
You’ll probably suit this role if you’re:
-
Creative and full of ideas.
-
Confident creating content for social media.
-
Comfortable taking photographs and filming video.
-
Able to edit short-form video content.
-
A strong written communicator.
-
Familiar with platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Canva and similar content creation tools.
-
Organised enough to plan content rather than relying entirely on spontaneous posts.
-
Comfortable approaching members and coaches to capture content.
-
Able to work independently and take ownership of projects.
-
Interested in fitness, health, wellness or lifestyle brands.
-
Willing to experiment, learn and improve.
-
Commercially minded enough to understand that marketing ultimately needs to help the business grow.
Experience in marketing, content creation, photography, videography or social media would be beneficial, but attitude, creativity and potential are more important to us than having the perfect CV.
What We’d Like to See
If you’ve previously created social media content, we’d love to see it.
This doesn’t need to be professional client work.
It could be content you’ve created for your own social media, university or college work, another business, a sports club or a personal project.
We’re interested in seeing your creativity and how you communicate visually.
More Than Just Social Media
Although social media will be an important part of the role, we don’t want our marketing to exist purely to generate likes and followers.
Ultimately, our marketing should help:
Attract new members. Keep existing members engaged. Build awareness of Atlas locally. Increase participation in our services. Grow the wider Atlas brand.
You’ll therefore have the opportunity to get involved with campaigns, email marketing, promotions, events, partnerships and new product or service launches.
Working Hours
We’re initially looking for approximately 10–13 hours per week.
There will be some flexibility around how these hours are structured, although you’ll need to spend time physically at the gym to capture content and understand what’s happening within the business.
We are also recruiting separately for a Member Experience Assistant.
For the right person who has both strong people skills and an interest or experience in marketing, there may be an opportunity to combine both positions into a full-time role of approximately 37 hours per week.
What We Can Offer
You’ll be joining Atlas at a point where there is a lot happening and plenty to market.
Rather than being given a rigid corporate marketing plan, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute ideas and see your work go from concept to something our members and potential customers actually see.
As the business grows, there will be opportunities for the role and your responsibilities to develop with it.
You’ll gain practical experience across social media, content creation, email marketing, campaigns, events, customer acquisition and brand development.
How to Apply
If you think you’d be a good fit for The Atlas Gym, we’d love to hear from you.
Please send us:
Your CV, together with a short introduction telling us about yourself, why you’d like to work with Atlas and why you think you’d suit the role.
If possible, we’d also love to see examples of content you’ve created or marketing work you’ve previously been involved with.
This could be a portfolio, social media account or simply a few examples of your work.
Location: The Atlas Gym, Spa House, Winchet Hill, Goudhurst, Kent.
